I would be amiss to not send this to you during this season for celebration of the winter solstice… for me it’s a time for family, friends, loved ones (yes that includes you), the reflection of the past year and the view of the year to come! I love you man, I just wish you’d wake up and realize that Jesus is no more real then daffy duck… that being said though it doesn’t mean I think you shouldn’t love your neighbor (especially if her husbands not around HA!) , fellow man and enemy. You should help those who are less fortunate than you and not judge those whom have made “human” errors! You should leave the world a better place then it was when you entered it. If you need a god or book to tell you these things then you have problems far beyond the ability of a book to fix because it is you (and I don’t mean you literally but any person that needs the bible as an excuse to be good) that we will read about someday like the BTK guy!
BTW… Here’s a better motto to live by if you are looking for a set of rules: “Do not injure, abuse, oppress, enslave, insult, torment, torture, or kill any creature or living being.”… Want to know who’s motto that is?… Jainism… The number one rule is NON VIOLENCE! GOT THAT??? NO REPUBLICANS SCREAMING FOR WAR! …. Re read the bible and tell me about the loving god again that tells you to own slaves (Leviticus 25:44) and kill all the millions of people whom work on Sundays (Exodus 35:2)… Just a thought on this Winter Celebration Season of Love and Peace and Good Will Toward Man! Love Ya Man and Happy Holidays regardless the reason you celebrate!
How the Christians stole the Winter-Solstice holiday
by Jim Walker
Perhaps I should title this section, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” except that the Grinch, in this case, describes Christians, and ‘Christmas’ gets replaced by the original pagan celebrations.
Christians celebrate the Nativity, or the birth of the alleged Jesus every December 25. Contrary to belief, there exists no evidence for a Jesus born on a December. Not a single shred of Biblical text declares this date, nor gives a hint of a winter season birth for a Jesus “the Christ.” In fact, there occurs not a tad of evidence for the existence of a historical Jesus!
The Christmas that we celebrate today derived from pre-Christian Germanic, Roman, and Celtic people who celebrated the winter solstice. The use of holly, mistletoe, yule logs, wassail bowls, and decorating a tree derived from early pagan customs. Many European countries still call this celebration “Yule-tide” meaning “wheel time,” the cycles of time. None of these derive from Christian origin.
The Persian Mithras cult spread during the 3rd and 4th centuries B.C.E. and predates Christian ceremonies and rites such as: baptism, communion wafer, and Sunday rest. On December 25, the sacrifice of a bull celebrated the Sol invictus (the invincible sun) and signaled the birth of a young sun god who sprang from a rock or a cave in the form of a newborn infant.
The Romans celebrated the Winter Solstice on December 25th as a renewing of the sun every year. Also the Romans celebrated the festival of the Saturnalia from December 17th to the 24th to honor Saturn, the god of grain and agriculture. The festival consisted of a period of goodwill, devoted to visiting friends and the giving of gifts.
At the beginning of the first century, Christianity emerged as a fledgling religion but not until the 4th century did Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. The motive behind the introduction of this celebration aimed at subverting the practice of pagan rituals such as Mithra and Saturnalia. Pope Liberus introduced the Nativity on December 25th 354 C.E.. By the 5th century, the event became so customary that it began to mark the beginning of the ceremonial year.
Today, we still celebrate with ornaments on trees, mistletoe and giving gifts, none of which has anything to do with Christian mythology. So instead of celebrating the Christian deception, why not opt for the earlier non-god celebration of the Winter Solstice? After all, it represents an actual event as the planet earth orbits about the sun. The universe presents us with far more magnificent events than the superstitious religionists have ever dreamt up. Even more than the imagination of Dr. Seuss.

Whether you believe Saturday’s massacre was politically motivated or not you have to believe that the Republican Party should want to own this attack! They should be proud of this gunman’s accomplishment’s because this very thing is what they have been calling for when they have constantly bellowed Second Amendment Solutions and Don’t Retreat, Reload! They spew things like “I’m thinking about killing Michael Moore…I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it,…No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out. Is this wrong?” Or ” Obama, suck on my machine gun” and Clinton “you might want to ride one of these into the sunset.”also referring to the machine gun… Then they draw Gun Cross Hairs on the very Victim of Saturday’s rampage herself.

The Republicans that don’t believe in this hyperbole rhetoric stood there and did nothing! They sat there and benefited from the mass hysteria that was feed to unstable people with guns. And they still remain silent.

So own it Republicans! Whether or not this attack is political is of no consequence. This is what you called for. Don’t back down, keep your websites up! Have a set of balls! Show America that you are strong and you truly believe in the words you spew! After all you wouldn’t want us to think you are nothing but a bunch of fake overstating puke fest politicians that just disgorge garbage what ever way the political winds blow now would you?

I’ve said this before; racism and hate are the reasons why the Republican Party still exists. Without it they’d have roughly 3% of the vote.

How else can you convince someone that it’s a good thing to vote against your own self interest… to work until you are 70, have no health insurance, work for no minimum wage, have no benefits, have no job security, work in unsafe conditions, have your benefits cut when you lose your job, have the ecology destroyed for corporate profit that you will never see, watch your drinking water catch fire from frocking fluids needed so energy companies can reap ridiculous profits, watch banks collapse from deregulation watch the Gulf turn Black from Oil because the Party you vote for thought oil companies should regulate themselves, proudly have your children killed in a war over lies for the profit of mega companies getting no bid contracts… how do you get people to do that? You throw in hate and racism then thought and reason go to the wayside.

2004, Gays are going to Marry unless you vote against your own self interest!

2008 Gays are going to marry and join the Military if you don’t vote against your own self interest….. Oops… they didn’t buy it this time… need to come back stronger!

2010 Obama Care is going to have the Government take over your health Care (Oh, yeah they already do, it’s called Medicare and it doesn’t work too badly)! Death Panels (FALSE)! Trillion Dollars that we can’t afford!… (They didn’t mention this would actually save the US $100+ Billion…)

Mexican Babies will be born American Citizens if you don’t stop Democrats. (They forget to mention Reagan gave them Amnesty)

Muslims are going to build a Mosque near the Towers… as though ALL Muslims attacked us on 9/11. (I know many Muslims and none want to destroy the US and all love this country. More Christians have attacked this Country than Muslims…)

CHECK THE FACTS PEOPLE!

The one thing they don’t talk about is the issues because they realize they can’t. They can’t stand on the issues. After all who wants to screw themselves? They just want to hate someone or something and the Republican Freight Train rolls on, knowing this and using this to leverage it and be able to at least win enough seats to have some power.

Why does this work? Many American’s have a preconceived notions about certain things. Then you put Fox in the mix, (Notice I Purposely left the word News off that equation? That’s because they themselves have admitted they are not a News Organization.[1]) and they start shoving Talking Point after Talking Point down their listeners’ throats. They throw so much up against the wall they have to hit something their audience believes. Once their audience starts hearing one thing they believe they begin to listen for more. If what they heard originally was about gay marriage for example, and the listener was firmly a Homophobe then the following would be very powerful, “You can’t allow Gays to marry, would you want two guys living next to, kissing and holding hands… IN FRONT OF YOUR CHILDREN! RECRUTING THEM AND PERHAPS MOLESTING THEM WHEN YOU AREN’T LOOKING????” Nearly those exact words were being said during the 2004 campaign for president. Then that person will listen for more feedings and tend to believe anything that is being said without checking for its factual basis. Why should they, they already accept it as true it and now a National Television Program has just confirmed their beliefs, no reason to research it any further.

It matters none that the facts don’t support Gay neighbors recruiting your children and molesting them and in fact your children are far more likely to be molested by a straight church official or heterosexual republican than a Gay person but does that matter to those that have thrown themselves so wantonly at the feet of Fox and the deception? No, people heard what they wanted because it mimicked their own values and their myopia lead them to vote for the worst president in this country’s history. Fox purposely did this so their listeners ignored the issues. After all, the issues were Wars started over lies; dead US Soldiers, No WMDs, 9/11 happened because Bush thought his buddies making billions on Star Wars to protect America from a State Sponsored Missile Launch that is so remote because who in their right mind would launch a single missile at the US? It would ensure total destruction to their entire country. That was far more important than Terrorism, even after Clinton warned him that Bin Laden was his number one threat as he left office

[2], deficit spending had again gone wild during another Republican President after being handed a balanced budget but again we find trillions in tax breaks to his buddies far more important than this County’s well being. Out of all the disasters and lies brought on by the Republicans and Bush what was the number one concern by the people that voted for them? A hate issue… Gay Marriage… That was of greater importance than all the things previously mentioned. Again, Republicans can’t stand on the issues…

Hate trumps reason… Racism trumps intelligence…

In 2008 we found two things happened, Republicans came out weak with their Hate and they came out weak with their Candidates. They got hammered.

They did not make the mistake again as far as the Hate issue in 2010. They hit the hate accelerator as hard and as often as possible as previously mentioned. Their followers reveled in it. Again those that call themselves Republicans heard what they wanted so why bother checking the facts? Why bother checking to see if Obama has only been in for 20 months and his policies have only had a few months to actually start working and why bother to see if the economy has at worst leveled off and at best started to rebound from the worst disaster since the Republican lead depression… And who has the time to check the facts to see if Tarp was actually a Bush Program and not an Obama program, even when Bush is running around claiming it. Now watch and see those who blamed the program on Obama take credit for it when it turns out to be a good program. (Note: I have always supported the program from the beginning, I just think it could have been handled differently during the Bush portion of the Bailout, Banks, but when you look at the auto bailouts, Obama portion, what a great success that program was). It was always more important to make sure Lucida and Tomas didn’t have their baby in the US and Abbas and Abdul didn’t build a Mosque near Ground Zero next to the two strip clubs (within three blocks of Ground Zero) so they don’t desecrate the Hallowed grounds that were once the World Trade Center… Completely forgetting that dozens of those killed on 9/11 were themselves Muslims.

No, those that followed the Republican mantra for 2010 did so because they failed to do due diligence when it comes to the facts. What the obtuse followed was the xenophobic battle hymn of very intelligent and influential drummers. After all how else did they get be in that 3% of the Republicans that could only get their own votes without the ability to use hate as a weapon to get others to vote against their own self interest…

[1] Fox Written Statement to CNN Oct 12, 2009 “An increasing number of viewers are relying on Fox News for both news and opinion,” Fox News Senior VP Michael Clemente said in the statement, “and the average news consumer can certainly distinguish between the A-section of the newspaper and the editorial page, which is what our programming represents.

“So with all due respect to anyone who might still be confused about the difference between news reporting and vibrant opinion, my suggestion would be to talk about the stories and the facts rather than the [sic] attack the messenger . . . which over time has never worked.”

[2] Clinton said, according to Reuters. “I told him (bush) that in my opinion, the biggest security problem was Osama bin Laden.”

I wouldn’t mind paying more in taxes and I’m far from rich! I’m an Adult and I realize that to live in a country where you have great things and a good education, and you can drive down nice roads and the military is fighting wars and the poor don’t live on the streets and kids don’t starve to death and the sick don’t die by the 1000’s and we can go to parks to enjoy an afternoon with our children and we can call the police when we have a problem and the court system will take over and punish the offender and the prison will house the offender and if our home was destroyed by a storm the Fire Company would rescue us and if we were homeless because our home was destroyed a shelter would take us in and if we lost our job from that storm we’d get unemployment and if we couldn’t get a new home because we had no money because of the storm the government would help us with rent and if we got sick we’d get help with our medical bills and when we get better we can find another job and get back on our feet and until that time taxes is what got us through!!

Thankfully I’m an adult and I realize taxes keep us is the difference between us and  an undeveloped country!

I’ll touch on last night’s results and events and get far more in depth later in this editorial.

The biggest news of the night was the near total rejection of the Tea Party. Even the party which they run under said no to them as witnessed in the write-in thumping Joe Miller took at the hands of Murkowski in Palin’s own home ballpark… That should be very embarrassing.

The Democrats retained control of the Senate. Yes we took a few losses but we kept control mainly because in the Senate people see the politics in more depth. The Republicans picked up six seats and only two were multi-term senators, Blanche Lincoln (two terms) and Russ Feingold (three terms).  Unlike 2008 when six term Senators went down to defeat and the Democrats picked up 10 seats. Again, picking up seats in the Senate is far harder than the House, I’ll explain more about this later.

The House, well what can I say, no sugar coating… We lost the House. Comparatively it was as big as loss as you’ll see but does that mean it’s all bad? No, I’ll explain more later, but let’s just say when Boehner is your leader, stupidity will now no longer be the back page news…

OK, so here we go. What follows is my assessment and breakdown of the last 48 hours and forward look in to the next several years for the future of this country.

THE TEA PARTY AND THE SENATE

Folks The TEA PARTY got solidly rejected and if you take a moment and read further down in my Blog on October the 16th I correctly predicted that the Tea Party would cost the Republicans the Senate. As a party they ran 100’s of candidates, only three got elected to office on the Governor and Senate side and eight on the House side of things. Of those eight in the House only one took a seat from a Democrat and that seat was Dennis Hastert’s old seat just a couple years ago and it was Hastert’s employee that won that so saying he was a Tea Party candidate is a stretch . Of the Senators and Governor, Rand Paul, who was running in a solid Republican state, one that carried McCain by 18 points in 2008, Marco Rubio won in Florida, a State that couldn’t get the chads right in 2000 and of course Governor Elect Nikki Haley from another heavy voting McCain state and let’s face it, she had the “HOT” factor… (I’m voting for her because she’s so hot! I don’t care what her policies are)…

Now I’m not talking about Tea Party backed Candidates, (calling Haley and Rubio Tea Party Candidates is stretching it as I’ll explain later) but TEA PARTY CANDIDATE’S. There is a huge difference. Christine O’Donnell, Joe Miller, Sharon Angle, Ken Buck … Those are Tea Party Candidates. John McCain? NOT a Tea Party Candidate like some networks would have you believe…  Just those four alone cost the Republican’s the Senate. Their entire racist, bigoted, moronic, philosophical (I give them too much credit) views were rejected by the Adults once the Adults heard their utter absurdity!  We can look further at the Governor’s race in New York and see the irrationality of Carl Paladino who lost by 27 points and in his concession speech he babbled as though he had won, threatening with a baseball bat…

Tea Party Candidates lost the Senate for the Republican’s. That is without doubt. Now when will the blow back begin? Republican’s need to purge themselves from these myopic idiots so they can form their own party completely, maybe next time Republican’s (even Fox) won’t kiss their ass so blatantly.

As for the Tea Party Candidates that won their seats you ask? Republicans saw how the Tea Party lost them control; do you really think they will continue to kiss the Tea Party’s ass now the election is over?

SARAH PALIN

I didn’t know if I wanted to put this myopic egotistical leader of the zombies next or save her for last but after much soul searching and a flip of the coin, Rand Paul gets the final blast … The absolute dumbest thing I heard today was, Sarah Palin had a great night! It truly blew my mind on just how stupid that statement was. (I need to get a Nerf Ball to throw at the TV when dumb moments happen so I don’t break my 50” HDTV). They then showed a list of Sarah Palin backed candidates and how they did… she went six and four, six wins and four loses… now I know you are saying, “Well Wally, that doesn’t sound bad, so what are you talking about?”

When you looked at the six they claimed as her victories they had listed people like John McCain… Yes, they claimed now seven term Senator John McCain who won in 2004 with 75% of the vote, now owes Sarah Palin his victory! Can you give me my Nerf Ball?

They also had listed Rand Paul who ran away from Palin as often as he could. In fact not one person on the list other than Rand Paul was an actual Tea Party person, they all had Republican ties and then later allowed Sarah to say she liked them.

I did a little further checking… well guess what? She endorsed a total of 64 candidates… Now the key word there is endorsed OK…28 of them lost… Of the 28 loses 21 were actual Tea Party people. That means they were from cradle to grave a Tea Party person. … Not Backed Tea Partiers… Not a Republican already in office in state or other office or had firm ties in the Republican system but they were by every definition a Tea Partier.

So from that original 64, 28 lost out right and that left 36 as winners… Now this includes Senate, House, and Governors and includes people like McCain, Three term Governor Rick Perry and so forth… only eight of the 36 winners could be classified as Tea Party people… Again, Not Republicans whoring themselves but actual Tea Party people. Paul Rand (KY), Renee Ellmers (NC), Allen West (FL) Hultgren (Il), Stephen Fincher (TN), Kinzinger (IL) Southerland (FL) Benishek (MI)

A little more digging and I found that calling Nikki Haley (SC), Marco Rubio (FL), Nunnlee (MS) Adams (FL)and  Tim Scott (SC ) Tea Partiers would be to ignore the facts that they were state representatives in the Republican Party. They already had the Republican Moniker on them and had the brand name in their district or state. Marco Rubio was the Florida House of Representatives, Speaker of the House. You can’t get that title without being high up in the party that has control of the House. In his case it was the Republicans.

Paul Rand is truly the only big name Tea Partier to make it. He did it in a state that Voted for McCain by 14 points in 2008, did anyone expect anything different?…  So that makes her Tea Party candidates eight wins and 21losses… Or to put it another way her Tea Party had a 28% win record on a night that republicans won  57%…

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SARAH?

With her embarrassing defeat in her own home state the Republicans should take that as a sign that the Adults of this country don’t want Sarah Palin or her highly divisive Tea Party. The write-in Candidate spanks the nominee, which was the handpicked favorite of the face of the Tea Party, in her own state, that should be an awakening to the Republican Party.

The Republican Party needs to seriously look at that and remind her that she should be humiliated!

Yes, many people identify with the Tea Party’s motto Smaller Government and Less Taxes, but they were doing that long before the Tea Party. They didn’t identify with the obvious racism, hatred and divisiveness that the Tea Party exhumes.

The Republicans have a serious problem on their hand. If they continue to kiss Sarah’s ass and coddle her, she will continue to divide and turn the Adults away from the Republican Party. If they make a move to shed themselves of this narrow-minded, egocentric buffoon, she’ll lead the Tea Party to a third body in the next election. That will spell disaster for the Republican Party. Sarah will take anywhere from 20 to 30% of the voters with her leaving the Republican’s unable to win but a handful of contests.

So what will they do with her? As a Liberal it could be fun to watch an implosion of epic magnitudes within the Republican Party over her.…

THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE

Why were there Tea Party victory’s in the House and in reality only one in the Senate? The Tea Party got exposed in the Senate. The races were for the most part national and at the very least state wide. The Tea Party’s agenda was exposed. The candidates and their fanatical concepts could not hold up under scrutiny. Whereas the House races were more local events and not as many people paid attention to the participants, other than are they Republican or Democrat.

As an example, I live in an area that saw advertising for seven districts, none claimed to be from the Tea Party directly but one did claim in a couple of ads to defend the Tea Party. There were no debates, no way to expose who was running and what they believe in other than 30 second ads which most people just turn. The only Candidate that defended the Tea Party near where I live lost.

Add to that many people don’t know who their Congressman are. They vote a straight ticket and walk away. Again this is unlike the Senate race which goes state wide and many cases national. That exposure cost the republicans enormous.

JOHN BOEHNER

His stupidity is now out there for all to see and he did not miss a chance to shine today… He stated that now he has control of the House he will repeal the Health Care Law! Can someone please tell him how Government works… The Democrats still have control of the Senate and the White House so how he’s going to do this is? Is he obtuse or is he playing to his unintelligent followers? I have to assume he actually knows how Government works so why does he continue to call his followers stupid… and why do they continue to lap it up?

RAND PAUL

Now folks the Gold Lining… Rand Paul won a seat in a state that voted heavily for McCain in a year that Obama swept to power so did anyone expect a Democrat victory in this state? Not I for sure, yet he carried the State by less than McCain did in a year that everyone was supposed to hate Obama…

So what will the Republicans do with this nut job? They will kiss his ass and if the Democrats are smart they will sit back and watch!

Rand Paul will now have to either hold steady on his campaign promise to not allow the US to increase the debt a single dime or he’ll have to cave to reality and show he’s nothing more than the same ole Politian we’ve been sending to Congress for 200 years.

This is a no lose for the Democrats… if he stays the course and does not allow the US to increase the debt ceiling than the US defaults on the loans and global chaos follows to likens which this world has never seen. Government shuts down completely. The World financial Markets Crash. $100’s of trillions lost in the matter of seconds and the US is screwed, all because idiots voted a total moron into office. Why did they do that? They didn’t want to pay taxes… If you think taxes cost you just wait until that happens, and you lose everything… If that does happen or even the thought of it happens and the world markets start crashing in anticipation the Democrats get the biggest get out of shit card ever handed a party in the history of the politics! Even if he plays along and votes for the raising of the debt ceiling they can go, “SEE WE TOLD YOU! He’s no different than the other Republicans you have sent to Washington!”

The Democrats need to take full advantage of what Rand Paul and his eccentric ideas and actions will do to the Country. They need to ride his attempting to dismantle the Government and show America what it will be like with more of these intolerant odium filled masticates attempting to run things… Rand Paul is the Republicans worst nightmare and now it’s up to the Democrats to seize upon this opportunity!

FINALLY THE FINAL

So yes folks, don’t listen to the doom and gloom that is being feed upon you. It isn’t that bad. Many good things came from last night it is up to the Democrats to seize upon this opportunity and show America what it’s about! Above are just a few of the good things that happened but one thing else before I leave… Obama’s policies are already in place and the economy is starting to turn around. How are the Republicans going to explain the resurgence of the economy in 2012 when they only control one branch and have zero chance to get anything passed that the Democrats don’t want passed? DEMOCRATS NEED TO FORGE AHEAD WITH THEIR PLANS AND ALLOW THE REPUBLICANS TO HANG THEMSELVES! DON’T GIVE IN AND DON’T ROLL OVER!

I sit here on Tuesday November 2, 2010 at 1:15pm and I wonder how the vote will turn out. How bad will the losses be? Really I’m asking, how stupid is this country? Can we save  just enough seats to keep control and continue the rebuilding process begun when we cast aside the dumbest president in history? Are the American people smart enough to at least save the Senate? Or are we going down in flames? Are the people in this country truly stupid enough to be  lead to slaughter by the hyperbolic ideologues of Fox (notice I didn’t say news)? Especially after 8 years of the attempted murder of this country. Is this country’s attention span truly less than that of a 4 year old on Meth?

Well I’m not going down without a fight. Without One Last Act of Defiance!

I went to vote this morning and the Following occurred:

As I drove into the parking lot at my Polling Station I saw a sign that read “VOTE NO TO TAXES” along with other obvious anti Democrat signs… and then I saw some guys sitting next to the signs waving as people drove in. They and the signs were off the Polling Station property (Barely) so they were well within Michigan Laws. I got out of my car and walked over to them. As I approached they smiled and went to shake my hand but I kept my hand down. I looked at them and asked, “Are wars fought for free?… Do schools build themselves?… Do Police work for free?… Do Roads repair themselves?…” They looked at me like a deer in headlights… I then said, “I’m an adult I realize taxes are a good thing in a non 3rd world country”… I walked away and voted for all Democrats. When I finished voting I got back in my car and left.  As I drove away I noticed the idiots were still there waiving just as blissfully stupid as they were 15 minutes prior…

I thought about what I did and it took me back 33 years ago when my best friend Dan had a VW Mini Bus. On the side he had painted “The Last Act of Defiance!”…A painting in which a mouse sits in a field with an Eagle swooping down upon him but the doomed mouse gives his killer the finger! If you’re going down don’t go down laying there watching Fox and following their bullshit! Say something! Stand up! Think for yourself! Be defiant!

BE THAT MOUSE!!!!!!!!!

I believe the following is from Keith Oberman. I found it on Soda Head and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pass the message. After reading this  if you still believe the Tea Party is for you than please read the Post “THE DIVISION OF AMERICA” found later on my blog and lets build that border now so you can have your red America because I want NOTHING to do with these idiots!

It is as if a group of moderately talented performers has walked on stage at a comedy club on Improv night. Each hears a shout from the audience, consisting of a bizarre but just barely plausible fear or hatred or neurosis or prejudice.

And the entertainment of the evening is for each to take their thin, absurd premise, and build upon it a campaign for governor or congressman or senator. The problem is, of course, when it turns out there is no audience shouting out gags, just a cabal of corporations and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and political insider bloodsuckers like Karl Rove and Dick Armey and the Chicken Little Chorus of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

And the instructions are not to improvise a comedy sketch, but to elect a group of unqualified, unstable individuals who will do what they are told, in exchange for money and power, and march this nation as far backward as they can get, backward to Jim Crow, or backward to the breadlines of the ’30s, or backward** to hanging union organizers, or backward to the Trusts and the Robber Barons.

Result: the Tea Party. Vote backward, vote Tea Party. And if you are somehow indifferent to what is planned for next Tuesday, it is nothing short of an attempt to use Democracy to end this Democracy, to buy America wholesale and pave over the freedoms and the care we take of one another, which have combined to keep us the envy of the world.

You do not think your freedom is at stake next Tuesday?

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for senator from Nevada, Sharron Angle, compared rape to, quoting, “a lemon situation in lemonade.” She would deny an abortion even to a teenaged girl who had been raped by her own father.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate to be the only Congressman in Delaware, Glen Urquhart, said “there is no problem that abortion can’t make worse. I know good friends who are the product of rape.”

Mr. Urquhart also does not believe the phrase “separation of church and state” was said by Thomas Jefferson.

He thinks it was Hitler: “The next time your liberal friends ask you about the separation of church and state, ask them why they are Nazis.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Ohio 9th, Rich Iott, not only ran around in a Nazi uniform celebrating their military tactics, but implies he is a Veteran and as late as this March listed his occupation as “soldier” even though the volunteer militia to which he belongs has never been called, will never be called, to any active service, in the 29 years in which he has belonged to it.

It’s more than just dress-up. They mean business – literally. The Tea-Party-and-Republican-candidate for New Jersey’s 3rd House seat, Jon Runyan, defended corporate tax loopholes: “Loopholes are there for a reason. They are to avoid people from really having to pay too many taxes.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for the Senate in West Virginia, John Raese, explained, “I made **my** money the old-fashioned way, I inherited it. I think that’s a great thing to do. I hope more people in this country have that opportunity as soon as we abolish inheritance tax in this country.”

The inheritance tax applies only to estates larger than $3.5 million. For the 99.8 percent of Americans not affected by the estate tax, there is the minimum wage, which Mr. Raese also wants abolished. Or there is Social Security.

The Tea-Party-and-Republican-candidate in the Indiana 9th, Todd Young, says “Social Security, as so many of you know is a Ponzi scheme.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Wisconsin 8th, Reid Ribble, disagrees. Social Security “is, in fact, a Ponzi scheme.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Arizona 8th, Jesse Kelly, wants to resurrect President Bush’s scam to transform Social Security into private investment accounts so the government can force you to spend part of your paycheck on Wall Street commissions, and so that market manipulators can wipe out your retirement money.

The Republican candidate in the Wisconsin 1st, Congressman Paul Ryan, has a more sophisticated plan: Personal investment Social Security, guaranteed dollar for dollar by the government. A fiscal fountain of youth, until you find out its cost: Ryan would pay for it by taxing the health insurance you get from your employer.

If you are not employed, Mrs. Angle of Nevada says unemployment benefits can neither be increased nor extended because that “has caused us to have a spoilage with our ability to go out and get a job… There are jobs that do exist. That’s what we’re saying, is that there are jobs.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Senator in Alaska, Joe Miller, says this is academic, because unemployment insurance is unconstitutional. His own wife received unemployment insurance after losing a temp job he got for her. Mr. Miller also called Medicaid unconstitutional. It proved his entire family had received Medicaid funds.

Mr. Miller also claims Social Security is unconstitutional, yet hypocritically he says it should still be paid out, and then the issue dumped into the laps of the states.

The Republican-and-Tea Party candidate for Senator in Colorado, Ken Buck, would not stop at butchering just Social Security. [He said] “would a Veterans Administration hospital that is run by the private sector be better run then by the public sector? In my view, yes.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Pennsylvania 4th, Keith Rothfus, has promised to overturn anything the Supreme Court decides, with which he disagrees: “Congress’s ultimate weapon is funding. If the Supreme Court rules you have to do something, we’ll just take away funding for it.”

Back in Nevada Mrs. Angle decries health care – not reform, but health care itself. “Everything that they want to throw at us now is covered under ‘autism’,” she said. As to educating those children Mrs. Angle won’t pay for, Mr. Buck of Colorado, waxes nostalgic: “In the 1950’s, we had the best schools in the world, and the United States government decided to get more involved in federal education…well, since, we’ve made education worse, we’re gonna even get more involved.”

In Ken Buck’s America of 1957, fewer than one in five Black children graduated high school. Fewer than half of white children did. To the Tea-Party-and-Republican-candidate in the California 11th, David Harmer, Mr. Buck is a wild-eyed liberal. Mr. Harmer once advocated eliminating public schools altogether, and return education in this country to where it was before 1876: “People acting in a free market found a variety of ways to pay for a variety of schools serving a variety of students, all without central command or control.” And without girls, blacks, or even the slightest chance you could go to college.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Virginia 11th, Keith Fimian, is “not so sure we need a federal burocracy for education.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Florida 2nd, Steve Southerland, wants to “de-fund” the Department of Education because “we can’t afford it.”

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Texas 17th, Bill Flores, offers a tri-fecta plus a delusion. Get rid of “the pornographic endowment of the arts, department of energy, department of education” and with them, he says, ACORN. ACORN — which went out of business last April 1st.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Arizona 5th, David Schweikert, is “passionately” trying to eliminate the Department of Education because it’s “unconstitutional.”

And while one of the few threads uniting the ragamuffins who constitute the slate of Tea Party candidates is so-called ‘strict interpretation’ of that Constitution, Mr. Miller of Alaska wants, in fact, to change the Constitution. He wants to repeal the 17th amendment.

The TeTea Party-and-Republican candidate for senator from Utah, Mike Lee called the 17th amendment “a mistake.”

Buck and Lee and Miller not only demand you elect them to the Senate; they hope to then deny you the right to elect somebody else, next time.Last year, Mr. Buck of Colorado said the 17th amendment “took us down the wrong path.”
The 17th amendment, of course, permits the direct election by the voters of U.S. Senators.

The ubiquitous Mrs. Angle, meanwhile, wants to repeal the 16th amendment. It provided for a federal income tax. Mrs. Angle does not explain how, without it, the federal government would pay for keeping out the Mexicans she specifically attacks in her newest commercial.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Senator from Kentucky Rand Paul wishes to repeal the 14th amendment because it interferes with a private business’s right to ban black people from its premises, and also because it allows anyone born here in America to be American. He is worried about anchor babies.

The Republican candidate for the 1st District of Texas, Louie Gohmert, fears not anchor babies but terror babies — unborn infants brought to this country in the womb, ready for American citizenship and pre-programmed to blow things up fifteen or twenty years from now. Curiously, he has not been asked if he is in favor of aborting them.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, sees not terror fetuses but headless bodies in endless deserts murdered by immigrants who are nearly all drug mules.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Governor of Colorado, Dan Maes, believes a bike-sharing program is part of a plot to turn Denver into a metropolis run by the United Nations.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Senate from Delaware, Christine O’Donnell, believes she was cleared to read secret classified documents about China because she’s been working for Non-Profit Organizations for the past fifteen years. She also believes China is plotting to take over the United States and the first evidence of this is that “China is drilling (for oil) off the coast of Florida.”

This fear of the Chinese clearly does not extend to the Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Senate from Illinois, Mark Kirk. One day he held a fundraiser with American businessmen in China. The next day, he voted against closing tax incentives for outsourcing American jobs to places like China.

The Tea Party-and-Republican-candidate for Senate from Wisconsin, Ron Johnson is also in favor of relocating employees. He testified against toughening laws on pedophiles and employers who shield them. He argued this could damage a business. A business like the Catholic Church.

In Utah, the anti-bailout Senate candidate Mr. Lee, insists on not raising the liability limits for the next BP from $75 million to $10 billion: “You have a set of settled expectations that you give to a business when it decides to make an investment in this. Our country benefits from this type of activity…”

Asked by the Salt Lake City Tribune if that’s a kind of bailout, if it leaves taxpayers on the hook for part of the damage, Lee admitted, “Well, yea, probably does.”

Mr. Paul of Kentucky called the nationwide pressure on BP to increase its damage payments “un-American.” He is also opposed to Federal Mine Safety regulations: “The bottom line is: I’m not an expert, so don’t give me the power in Washington to be making rules. You are here, and you have to work in the mines. You’d try to make good rules to protect your people here. If you don’t, I’m thinking that no one will apply for those jobs.”

Mr. Paul’s admission that “I’m not an expert” does provide one of the few dovetails of the campaign. It matches nicely with Mr. Johnson of Wisconsin, who refuses to offer any specifics about his plan to deal with homeless veterans. He says, “This election is not about details.”

Details have proved devilish for the Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for the second district of Virginia, Scott Ridgell He campaigned against the stimulus bill, including the Cash-for-Clunkers program. Mr. Ridgell is an automobile dealer, and happily made hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Cash-for-Clunkers program.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate in the Missouri 4th, Vicky Hartzler, says she and her husband are just small business owners. “We just want the government to leave us alone,” she said. Hartzler and her husband have a farm. In the last fourteen years, that government they want to leave them alone, has given them subsidies totaling $774,000.

Mr. Raese of West Virginia told the Associated Press that “America is in an industrial coma” and blamed the “restrictor plate” that is “a bloated federal government.” “I can’t think,” he added, “of very many times when a government agency has helped me.”

The companies Mr. Raese owns have received $2.4 million in contracts from the federal government since 2000, and $32 million in contracts from the state government since 2000.

Back in Colorado, Mr. Buck apparently thought he was speaking to a campaign worker when he self-exposed his hypocrisy. In fact he was talking to a Democratic operative with a recorder in his pocket. Out of the blue, Tea Party nominee Buck blurted, “Will you tell those dumbasses at the Tea Party to stop asking me about birth certificates while I’m on the camera? God, what am I supposed to do?”

The contempt of Mr. Buck towards his own Tea Party, extends in many cases to reporters – and thus by proxy, to actual citizens.

For instance, the Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Governor of Maine, Paul LePage (Luh-Page), threatened to punch a radio reporter.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Governor of New York, Carl Paladino, threatened to “take out” a reporter from the most conservative newspaper in any major American city.

A spokesman told the reporter that he was now off the Palladino mailing list, which has, in the past, consisted of e-mails featuring racism, pornography, and bestiality. Mr. Miller’s private security guards in Alaska detained and handcuffed a reporter, and threatened to handcuff two more, without any legal right to do so, at an event at a public school.

The security company was operating with an expired license; its chief, has links to extremist organizations; and the defense was that the guards didn’t know the individual was a reporter, which implies it would be just dandy to handcuff an ordinary citizen.

Ms. O’Donnell threatened to sue a Delaware radio station if it did not destroy the videotape of her interview there. When she did not like a question, she snapped her fingers at her own press aide then shoved him. The campaign manager threatened to “crush” the station if it did not comply.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for the Senate from Florida, Marco Rubio dreams more of de-portation than de-capitation. He said, in March, “There are millions of people in America that hate our country, so why can’t we just do a trade? We’ll send you Sean Penn, Janeane Garofalo, and Keith Olbermann, and you can send us people that actually love this country.”

This, incidentally, carries with it a tinge of irony. I don’t know that any of his opponents has ever accused Mr. Rubio of not loving this country. He just doesn’t love a lot of its people. The person they all love the least is of course the President.

The Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for Congress from the Florida 22nd, Allen West, had to leave our military after threatening to kill an Iraqi he was interrogating. Now he claims to have a higher security clearance than does the President. Mr. West also told his supporters that they could defeat his Democratic opponent by making the man afraid to leave his own home.

And Tea Party-and-Republican candidate for the House from the Michigan 7th, the ex-Congressman Tim Walberg, wants to blackmail the President into showing his birth certificate… to Rush Limbaugh. He figures he can extort this from President Obama by threatening to impeach him.

You are willing to let these people run this country? This is the America you want? This is the America you are willing to permit? These are the kinds of cranks, menaces, mercenaries and authoritarians you will turn this country over to?

If you sit there next Tuesday and let this happen, whose fault will that be? Not really theirs. They are taught that freedom is to be seized and rationed. They can sleep at night having advanced themselves and their puppeteers and to hell with everybody else.

They see the greatness of America not in its people but in its corporations. They see the success of America not in hard work but in business swindles. They see the worthiness of America not in its quality of life but in its quality of investing. They see the future of America not in progress, but in revolution to establish a theocracy for white males, with dissent caged and individuality suppressed.

They see America not for what is, nor what it can be. They see delusions, specters, fantasies; they see communists under every bed and a gun in every hand. They see tax breaks for the rich and delayed retirement for everyone else. They fight the redistribution of wealth not because they oppose redistribution, but because their sole purpose is to protect wealth and keep it where they think it belongs – in the bank accounts of the wealthy.

They want to make the world safe for Bernie Madoff. But you know better. If you sit there next Tuesday – if you sit there tomorrow, and the rest of this week – and you let this cataclysm unfold, you have enabled this.

It is one thing to be attacked by those who would destroy America from without. It is a worse thing to be attacked by those who would destroy America from within.

But it is the worst thing to sit back and let it happen, to not find the time and the means to convince just one other sane voter to put aside the disappointment of the last two years and look to the future and vote. Because the disappointment of the last two years will be the “good old days” in a Tea Party America.

This is the week in which the Three Card Monte dealers hope to take over the government —the candidates who want their own way, who will say anything to make palatable their real identities as agents of regression, repression, and corporate sovereignty. They are here, they have energized the self-serving and the greedy and the proudly ill-informed.

And if no other fact convinces you of your obligation to vote and canvass and phone and drag even to the polls the most disheartened moderate or Democrat or Liberal or abandoned Republican or political neutral, to vote for the most tepid of the non-Insane candidates, if no other detail hands you that spark of argument with which to invigorate the apathetic, you need only commit to memory the words of Steffan Broden and Sharron Angle.

She can run from reporters but she cannot run from this quote from January, and all the horror and insurrection it implies: “Thomas Jefferson said it’s good for a country to have a revolution every 20 years. I hope that’s not where we’re going. But, you know, if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those second amendment remedies.”

Sharron Angle — too subtle for you? “Second amendment” remedies — guns instead of elections – too implicit? Fortunately, to our rescue, to the speeding of the falling of the scales from our eyes, comes the Tea Party and Republican nominee for the 30th Congressional District of Texas, “Pastor” Steffan Broden. “Our nation was founded on violence,” he said, on tape.

Was armed insurrection, revolution, an option in 2010? “The option is on the table. I don’t think that we should ever remove anything from the table… However, it is not the first option.”

Thank you! The attempt to overthrow the Government of the United States by violence is not The Tea Party’s first option. Next Tuesday is the first option!

The words are those of Nedrick Young and Harold Jacob Smith from the screenplay for the movie “Inherit The Wind.” As the attorney for the man on trial for teaching evolution, Spencer Tracy gets to the gist: “Fanaticism and ignorance is forever busy, and needs feeding. And soon, your Honor, with banners flying and with drums beating we’ll be marching backward, backward through the glorious ages of that 16th century when bigots burned the man who dared bring enlightenment and intelligence to the human mind!”

The angered judge replies, “I hope counsel does not mean to imply that this court is bigoted.” The attorney mutters, “Well, your honor has the right to hope.” The Judge warns, “I have the right to do more than that.” The attorney explodes: “You have the power to do more than that.”

And you have the power to do more than that.
